What film should you like, but don’t?

I hate "Schindler’s List," although it’s certainly well thought of, and it won Best Picture. I can’t stand "No Country for Old Men," which also won Best Picture, either.

What’s your favorite line of film dialogue?

Alec Guinness at the end of "The Bridge on the River Kwai" realizing it’s all his fault, says, "What have I done?"

What’s the biggest mistake you ever made that worked out in your favor?

It depends on how you want to look at it, but I spent all the money I had in the world, as well as every dime I could charge on credit cards, to make my film, "If I Had a Hammer." I truly believe it’s a good movie, and I’m glad I made it. Nevertheless, it was a huge mistake spending all my money and charging so much.

Who do you know that would make a great subject for a film?

I don’t really know anyone alive, including myself, who would make a worthy subject of a movie. But my late Grandma Olga, who immigrated from Hungary to the U.S. in 1922 by herself, would probably make a worthy subject.

What untapped talent of yours would you like to use in a film?

I believe that I have a talent for screenwriting, and that I’ve written quite a few good scripts, and I’d love to see them become movies.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to do, but don’t have the courage to do?

Open my eyes when I get to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Where’s the best place you ever filmed on location? The worst?

Shooting my movie "Lunatics: A Love Story" right here in Pontiac was terrific. The city could not have been nicer or more cooperative. Shooting "Xena" in New Zealand was also wonderful. I shot my last two films, both for Sci Fi Channel, in Sofia, Bulgaria, and I’ll be just fine if I never shoot there again.

How would you spend your last 20 dollars?

On pot. It’s better to have pot and no money, than money and no pot.

What film have you watched the most times?

I saw "Play It Again, Sam" 18 times at the movie theater. I saw "The Godfather" 16 times at the theater, and "The Godfather: Part II" 14 times at the theater. I’ve probably watched "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Bridge on the River Kwai" a hundred times each, although mostly on video.

If you could have the answer to any of life’s great mysteries, what mystery would you choose?

Why my girlfriend won’t say she loves me.
