Fall Classes Start October 26 at LIMS

ALLEN PARK, MI/ There are still some openings for people interested in attending fall classes at the Lifton Institute For Media Skills (LIMS) in Allen Park, where students will learn the skills needed to perform critical jobs on the sets of movie and TV productions.
LIMS is on the site of Unity Studios, a full-service film and TV production facility being developed on 104 acres at I-94 and Southfield Road. Fall classes start Oct. 26.
"We have room for 250 students for fall semester," said Unity Studios President Jimmy Lifton. "While some of the course tracks for fall are full or nearly full, we still have room for students in other tracks."
People can apply for fall, winter and spring semester classes at, www.liftoninstitute.com. At the web site, applicants should indicate which track they are interested in. If accepted, school officials will help students obtain tuition assistance through the state if needed. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Danee Isdaner at LIMS at 877-904-LIMS (5467) or 313-928-1400, extension 141.
The opening of LIMS marks the first step of development of Unity Studios.
"Unity Studios and LIMS are committed to creating good jobs for Michigan residents, many of whom have excellent skills, but need to be retrained to work in the film and TV production industry," said Eric Cedo, director of marketing for Unity Studios and LIMS. "LIMS will provide the classroom and on-set training people need to work in the industry. Just like students who attend a college or university, LIMS will give students the opportunity to land jobs in productions at Unity Studios and elsewhere in this industry. The best of the best will succeed in getting jobs."
The school will teach students the art of "below-the-line" work in production, encompassing all skills involved in creating a film or a TV project. Career tracks — much like majors at colleges and universities — include technical training in picture editing, sound mixing, camera, grip and electric, to accountants and location managers, to skills involved in the aesthetics of a production, such as set construction, hair, makeup and wardrobe.
Unity Studios has lined up film projects that LIMS students will get a chance to work on, putting their training to practice.
"Several other schools in the region teach film, but LIMS will allow students to work with the same tools, equipment and stages that they’d be working with in the profession they’re studying." Cedo said.
All aspects of production will occur at Unity Studios: workforce training for LIMS, production, post-production, distribution and marketing. Unity Studios is on schedule to open its first four stages in the fourth quarter of this year.
